Is there a road trip in my future?

December 7th, 2009 at 05:45 pm

There must be!! The car is acting up, go figure. It's nothing overly major, and it's not a safety hazard. I heard a pop near the glovebox and I apparently have blown a blower resistor or something like that. The fan blows normal on 4, not so great on 1-3. It heats fine though, so we wont freeze. And yes, we ARE hitting the road Tuesday night. My car is still under warranty, we just can't get it fixed until at least next week. If it's not covered for some odd reason, it's around $50 for the part and DH can fix it himself. Just bad timing of course. You'd think my car would appreciate the oil change and the new tires it got this weekend! Ingrate.

Well I'm kind of aggravated with the girl I sent that care package too. I just found out she's running around with a married man more than twice her age - and has been involved with him over a YEAR! I never said before how I "knew" (never actually met in person) this girl, but a good friend of mine is in jail after getting her pregnant 4 years ago when HE was twice her age. The baby did not survive. To top it all off, these two guys are practically best friends. Ugh, people really sicken me.

I'm still busy at work, to the point it's making me sick. I told my boss today that I don't care what happens, I am GONE as soon as payroll is processed Tuesday. Can't they just figure everything else out without ME?? I can't work myself sick like I have been.

Speaking of, I have packing to do and pumpkin bread to get out of the oven. I'm in ok shape for the trip if I can just get off my butt and back to work.

We need to run some Christmas gifts by the local program Tuesday before we skip town. Called this weekend to get matched up to two kids. We had a BLAST shopping! A 12 y.o. boy is getting an MP3 player, a remote control jeep, batteries, and a gift card for clothes. A 3 1/2 y.o. boy is getting cars and trucks, coloring books and crayons, a car carrying case, a warm winter jacket, hat, mittens, pants, shirts, and socks. That really was a lot of fun and I'm feeling SLIGHTLY better about Christmas. Still can't help but feel like everyone I know suffers from serious gluttony though.

Speaking of our own gluttony: we hooked up our new tv Friday night. So much for "no cable"! Best kept secret in many cable markets: If you have basic cable (just network channels) and you get a new tv with a QAM tuner, you get the ENTIRE cable lineup. That's correct, it's not currently scrambled and comes across as clear QAM. DH is in heaven now! Yes, I know it wont last forever.

Ok, enough random babbling from me for today.

I hope your car behaves itself for your trip!

I'm sorry to hear that work is keeping you so busy its making you sick. Frown I hope that something turns around for the better on that soon.

Ah, yes. I fondly remember when I was paying for the most basic of basic cable, yet had every non-digital channel available. That'll be hard for your DH to give up whenever the cable company fixes that. It happened to me when my cable company was bought out by another one - within about a month or so - my extra channels were gone... gone...gone. Then within a year I was being charged 200% more a month for less channels, and the cable bill was then gone...gone...gone. Big Grin

He'll live! I thought for sure he wouldn't when I canceled expanded basic back in February. This was quite the surprise on Friday when we scanned the channels with the new tv! We also have a Hava box at my mom's house that allows us to mooch off her cable if need be. He has only used that a few times since February though. I think he'll do ok. Besides, the digital tuner will still give him more channels than he has downstairs. For now, he'll enjoy these unexpected extra channels though. Big Grin I still can't be bothered...

Good luck with the trip Smile

ok the care package girl has got some nerve allowing a man she slept with to go to jail- then sleeping with his friend.

  5. dmontngrey Says:

Well she didn't want him to go to jail. Remember being 14 and knowing more than anyone else? Wink Yes, she was 14. He had to go to jail. It was wrong and I'm not arguing that. This girl is beyond smart, but so messed up. So she's now 18 and the new guy is late 30s, married, and ignoring his kids over her. Both of these guys are messed up and so is the girl. I NEVER would have sent that care package if I had known about this. We're not friends and never will be. I just thought I was doing a nice thing for a girl who'd had a tough life. I remember how hard freshman year of college was. She sure doesn't help matters with the choices she makes.

Does she have anyone to show her the right way or is that the only life she has known?

But at 14 unless he picked her up in a bar (yes they do try to sneak in) where he would have reason to think she was of age other wise I feel the 30 year old should have known she was too young.

Well hopefully sending her the food allowed her to keep away from Mr. Married Older man for a while if she is dating him for $ to buy food, gift, etc.

Her mom has drug problems and her dad wasn't a major part of her life growing up. Yes, my friend knew it was wrong - which is why he didn't tell anyone about this until he was arrested and word got around. This was after it was a done deal and the baby died immediately after birth. My friend has problems, is addressing them, and will have to register as a sex offender.

I was hoping I could be a positive influence from afar, by doing good things for her. I just don't want to be stuck in a position where she thinks I'm her friend now - I certainly can't be! I didn't even get suspicious about her and the married guy until a month ago. My suspicions were just confirmed and then I found out this had been going on for over a year. It just puts a damper in things when you try to be a positive influence on someone but they just can't seem to learn right from wrong.

What's a QAM tuner? That has really piqued my interest?

  9. dmontngrey Says:

According to wikipedia, it stands for: "quadrature amplitude modulation". I'll never remember that! It's available in many new digital tvs and allows you to get digital HD channels without a box, depending on your cable company. Some areas (like mine!) currently get the full cable lineup for free. ESPN, Comedy Central, Fox News, etc. Channels we used to pay for when we had expanded basic. It wont last forever, so we'll enjoy the "free cable" while we have it. It sure was a surprise to us when we scanned the channels!

Huh. DH just told me the channels are now gone. Very very strange indeed...
